Lambert, Hutchison Score In Loss

Despite final score, Sunday was a milestone game for both Cayson Lambert and Jeremy Hutchison as they scored their first goals in Thistles uniforms.

Lambert, who leads the Kenora Thistles in scoring, beat Matthew Michta of the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first period with assists from Hudson Gagne and Reidar Paquette.

Hutchison added his marker in the second period, his first point as a Thistle, with helpers going to Lambert and Jack Noel.

Both players hail from Dryden, Ontario, and spent last season playing at the U15 level. (Lambert played for the U15 Dryden PaperKings, while Hutchison was a member of the U15 Thunder Bay Kings)

Another highlight for Kenora Sunday was the play of Morgan Blackwood, who made 32 saves against against a Brandon team considered to be one of the best in the country (via CEHL on Instagram). Blackwood, who hails from Thunder Bay, now has 74 saves over his two U18 ‘AAA’ starts.

The Wheat Kings had seven players record multi-point games in the 10-2 win over the Thistles, including four-point performances from Brady TurkoAiden Laing and Jonah Lemoine.

In the Brandon net, Michta stopped 22 of the 24 shots he faced to earn his second win of the season. The 2007-born goaltender now sports a goals against average of 2.00 and save percentage of 0.917.

With the win, the Wheat Kings improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season and sit atop the Manitoba U18 'AAA' Hockey League table. Kenora, who was forced to play without Bo Gartzke and Brady Richards over the weekend, sits 11th with a record 0-3-0-1.

The Thistles head out on the road October 14th and 15th as they play the Southwest Cougars at the Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex in Souris, Manitoba. Both games will be broadcast live on FloHockey.

The next home game for Kenora is Sunday, October 22nd against the EastMan Selects.
