Thistles Fall To Selects In Beausejour

The U18 ‘AAA’ Kenora Thistles dropped a 6-2 decision Sunday to the EastMan Selects in Beausejour.

Kenora, coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Winnipeg Bruins Friday, got out to a 1-0 lead in the first period thanks to Cohl Elliott (assist to Hudson Gagne).

EastMan would come out of the gate strong in the middle frame, scoring four times on 22 shots.

The Selects, who beat the Winnipeg Wild 4-2 Saturday, scored two more times in the third period to extend the lead to 6-1 before Kenora got one of their own (Bo Gartzke from Carter Peters).

Thunder Bay’s Morgan Blackwood was between the pipes for Kenora Sunday, and played brilliantly despite the final scoreline. The 15-year-old finished with 42 saves in his first U18 ‘AAA’ regular season game.

The Thistles return home now for a pair of games at the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre. They’ll play host to the Brandon Wheat Kings Saturday (October 7th at 7:30pm) and Sunday (October 8th at 1:30pm).
