Wheat Kings Sink Thistles In Third Period

The Brandon Wheat Kings used a three-goal third period to beat the Kenora Thistles 4-1 Saturday night.

Jonah Lemoine opened up the scoring for Brandon in the first period, beating James Hill for his second goal of the season (assists to Josh McGregor and Owen Wallace).

James Bichon, who played five games for Kenora as an AP last season, opened up his U18 ‘AAA’ scoring account in the second period after Cash Lappage sprung him on a breakaway.

It wasn’t until the third period that the Wheat Kings took control, with Declan Hoad, Ethan Stewart and Nash Henwood all finding the back of the net.

Hill, making his second start of the season, was fantastic in net for the Thistles. The 16-year-old stopped 44 of the 48 shots he faced. On the season, he now holds a GAA of 2.88 and a save percentage of 0.932.

In the Brandon net, Burke Hood stood tall and came away with 25/26 shots saved and his second win of the young season.

With the win, the Wheat Kings improve to 3-0 on the year while the Thistles fall to 0-2-0-1.

The two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon with puck drop set for 1:30pm CST.

If you can’t make it to the game at the Moncrief Construction Sports Centre, it will be broadcast live on FloHockey.
